thinking about hadestown as a story in which each character realizes both that they’re in a time loop + that there is an audience observing them at different points throughout the show
there’s this moment in if its true where it seems like orpheus is pleading with the audience to change how the story goes. eurydice knows this has happened before by come home with me reprise (“i can sing us home again” “no, you can’t” “yes, i can” “no, you don’t understand”) but orpheus doesn’t know until doubt comes in (“who am i to think that she would follow me into the cold and dark again?”). the gods are both observed and observing (hades and persephone and hermes all stand off to the side for most of the show when they aren’t the main people in a scene); for hades and persephone, this happens year after year anyways without any kind of time loop narrative, but hermes is fully aware from the beginning of the narrative structure of the story, obviously.
persephone knows all along that she’s being observed, but the amount she cares varies between actors (amber gray’s persephone does not care that there’s an audience; jewelle blackman’s persephone is desperate for this story to be witnessed). hades never knows.

The fates are an interesting case in this. They know how it goes. And are actively forcing everyone else to stick to the plot, because that’s their job. When the other characters stray from the loop, the fates nudge em back on
Planes are bombing randomly and the sound of tanks is very close. It is a horror like the Day of Judgment. The situation is very dangerous now. The bombing does not stop.
Guys, they just bombed a house next to us, very close, stones are falling on us, it’s very dangerous and the situation is difficult, it’s now 1:10 in the morning and the explosions are intense and people are screaming
The matter does not stop at land and air only, they are launching shells from ships and warships so that no one can reach those inside the house. The matter is very horrific. How long will we continue with this miserable life? Please, please donate to us and help us.

my sincerest wish is that everyone know about the john c. campbell folk school in brasstown north carolina. where you can sign up to take classes taught by folk artists in literally every possible category of folk art. theyve got blacksmithy, traditional beadwork, lacemaking, instrument making, folkloric oral history. you name it, they teach it. literally everyting. its so awesome.
EDIT: you can also take classes online for as low a fee as $10 for a few hours of instruction over video call. they also host an annual folk festival where you can learn the basics for free by going in person <- how i learned to weave
SECOND EDIT: this place is alsp pretty close to cherokee and the ancestral homeland of the cherokee people, so they have a lot of classes and lectures about cherokee folk craft too

Superman being unapologetic about his care for life of all sorts made this movie for me. He yells at Lois when she asks him why he stopped a war without the government’s permission, because “People were going to die!” He tries to keep a giant, dangerous, city-threatening monster alive, or at the very least euthanize it humanely. While the Justice Gang throw every weapon they have at every threat, he goes around saving people, and also a squirrel, because every life matters.
He risks his life for his cousin’s dog, because he was out there alone, and probably scared.
